The E-Teachers Academy was founded by the preeminent education blogger Kirsten Winkler in May 2009 as a place for independent online teachers / tutors to learn the needed skills to succeed on the Internet.

In August 2011 the E-Teachers Academy was relaunched as a freemium service, offering the majority of its content for free to anyone interested in learning how to become a successful, independent online teacher.
